Lilies are a generous visitor, despite the look of refinement. With a sharp knife cut the stems of your lily at a 45 degree angle under flowing water If you wish to prolong their lives remove the pollen from the stamens. Place in a vase with room temperature water and add flower food. Keep all leaves above waterline of the vase to prevent bacteria build up. Change their water every few days. Cut the stems every few days to keep the flowers appearing fresh. Note that flowers are poisonous to cats. If you want to talk to your lilies, go ahead, but don’t make other guests who might be visiting uncomfortable.
